The Bingo Tea

My name is Sharon Dawson and I’m a sixth year student in Crieff high School currently studying Chemistry, Human Biology and Physical Education.  I participated in a school exchange to Weifang, China in June 2012 and I very quickly realised I wanted to take a gap year and experience a culture totally unique to what I’m used to here in Scotland.  I’m extremely excited about gaining a place with Project Trust and I am looking forward to the challenge that I will face over the next year with fundraising, and of course my project!

About Project Trust

About Me

Malaysia is a country in South-east Asia, and consists of two parts: Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo which are separated by the South China sea.  The main religion is Islam and the country speaks many dialects including Bahasa Melayu, Chinese dialects and English.  Malaysia is a geographically diverse country bursting with forests, mountain ranges, beaches and jungles. However, whilst some areas of Malaysia have become prosperous by exporting electronic goods, many rural areas are still extremely poor.  These regions rely on rubber and palm oil plantations as a means of survival.

I will leave for Malaysia in January 2014 and when I arrive I will be teaching in a school (either primary or secondary).  I will be working as an English Speaking Assistant teaching in the English, Maths and Science departments.  It will also be my responsibility to work with trained teachers to strengthen their knowledge of English.  I am very excited about this because I am very interested in science and want to use my knowledge and skills to help children less fortunate than myself.
